The Latvian-Finnish choir Ziemeļmeita was established in 2012 as a realised dreams of Latvians living in Finland. It was a noise more than a voices at the very start. But soon Ilmārs Millers a talented Latvian conductor took over the choir. He is creating unforgettable concert programs, attuning singers’ voices for those and taking choir under his wing literally, as he flies for rehearsals weekly from Latvia. The quality of performance of choir has grown a lot over five years. It has been successful cooperation with conductor Ilmars Millers.
The Ziemelmeita has got the highest points (43) in the national amateur choir contest for The Best Latvian Chorus from Abroad in spring 2017. By increasing of artistic level of choir, the number of concerts has grown. Ziemelmeita have got recognition between Latvian choirs oversea or in Latvian diaspora. It has raised interest about Latvian music in Finland too.
Conductor Ilmars Millers is Member of European Latvian Association (ELA) Artistic Committee and chorus Ziemelmeita is taking part at happenings organised by ELA like European Festival of Latvian Culture ELKS 2015 at Brussel and Festival for 70 Years since First Latvian Song Festival at Esslingen at 2017, European Regional Cultural Festival at Stockholm 2017. By being Ziemelmeita singer strengthens feeling of belonging to own national culture and traditions, what usually is a problem for people overseas.
Rihards Zarins is acting as second conductor of choir Ziemelmeita since 2016.
